Mental Health School Days Bill

To authorize students to have five personal health days throughout the whole school year.

Whereas, students may take up to five days for mental health purposes or illness. The school year shall be extended five days. 


Whereas, students get overwhelmed because of various life responsibilities.


Whereas, students may get sick but cannot always afford to visit the doctors 


Whereas, some students do not have health insurance. 

BE IT ENACTED BY LEGISLATE SENATORS VIRTUALLY ASSEMBLED THAT

Glossary of Terms:

The Department of Health of Rhode Island states that mental health is anything that affects emotional, psychological and social well being. Also how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices.

Section 1:


The school year shall be extended to 185 days so students can have an extra 5 days for mental health purposes and illness. Students are required to attend 180 days of school in the state of rhode island. The school shall permit students to utilize five days out of the school year as unexcused without penalty. The goal of this bill is to further help those struggling with mental health issues and to provide flexibility in the school year for unforscene events in the students’ lives.

Enforcement:

This bill shall be enforced by rhode island government officials as well as the secretary of state, if schools do not comply with this bill then they will be punished according to discretion by the officials.
