Whereas many students feel that schools provide sufficient meals, those that have allergies or dietary restrictions tend to disagree. These restrictions could be a result of personal preference, morals, or beliefs. Whatever the cause, schools should accommodate these needs to the best of their abilities and provide students with this basic necessity of food.

BE IT ENACTED BY LEGISLATE SENATORS VIRTUALLY ASSEMBLED THAT

Glossary of Terms:

Dietary Restrictions can include (but are not limited to): allergies (e.g. tree nuts, milk, eggs), intolerances (e.g. lactose, gluten), personal preference (e.g. keto, paleo, vegetarianism), or religious restrictions (e.g. Hinduism not allowing the consumption of beef, non-kosher goods).

Dietary Accomodations should aim to meet the same caloric and nutiritional requirements as a standard school meal.

Caloric and nutritional guidelines are those put in place by the FDA.

New York State school meal funding will be redistributed and increased to provide alternative meal options that accommodate for common dietary restrictions while meeting the current caloric and nutritional guidelines. This bill addresses allergies to peanuts, treenuts, eggs, milk, wheat, and soy; intolerances to gluten and lactose; preferences of vegetarianism and veganism; and religious restrictions of foods of venerated sources and non-kosher goods. Other restrictions can be reviewed for future inclusion.

Punishments:

Punishments for failure to properly redistribute funding will be determined by the results of an investigation of the school and subsequent officials in violation.

Enforcement:

Enforcement will be ministered by the current agencies that regulate school meal program funding to ensure the proper resdistribution of funding allocated by this bill towards dietary accomdative meals.
