GI Joe Sales Tax Relief Bill

A bill to eliminate all state sales tax for veterans.

Whereas the men and women of New York State who have been honorably discharged from the United States Military have served with great distinction and sacrifice, they shall be recognized for their service.

 

Whereas the State of New York shall eliminate all state sales tax on good purchased by those who have been honorably discharged from active duty in the United States Armed Forces.

 

Whereas any honorably discharged veteran who shows proof of service while making a purchase shall be exempt from paying state sales tax.

BE IT ENACTED BY LEGISLATE SENATORS VIRTUALLY ASSEMBLED THAT

Glossary of Terms:

State Sales Tax - Any tax on sale given by the State of New York

 

Veteran- Any veteran who served on active-duty in the United States Armed Forces and received an honorable discharge.

 

Active Duty- The definition for active duty as interperted by the United States Department of Veteran Affairs.

Honorably discharged veterans making purchases in New York State who show proof of service while making a purchase shall be exempt from paying state sales tax.

Punishments:

Any person who attempts to receive this tax exemption using fake proof of service will be charged with identity fraud and tax fraud. Based on each case, the plaintiff may be charged with stolen valor.

Enforcement:

Any veteran who shows proof of service by using their VA Identification card (VIC) or DD-214 may be eligible for this tax exemption.

Enactment:

GI Joe Sales Tax Relief Bill

will go into effect on

September 1, 2021, 4:00:00 AM

Effective September 1, 2021. Any place of business that charges sales tax in the State of New York shall be notified of the new exemption.
